It is noted that the planned investments include the creation of 3,000 permanent jobs on a 1,000-acre site in New Albany, Ohio.
It is also known that Intel will build at least two semiconductor plants.
Ohio has agreed to invest $ 1 billion in infrastructure upgrades to make the plant easier to operate.
Intel said it declined to comment on its plans, but said on Friday CEO Pat Helsinger would reveal details of “Intel’s latest plans to invest in manufacturing leadership” as it works “to meet growing demand for advanced semiconductors.”
Addition
Chip manufacturers are trying to increase production after manufacturers around the world, from cars to consumer electronics, have faced a shortage of chips. Intel is also trying to win back its position as the smallest and fastest chip maker from current leader Taiwan-based TSMC.
Last fall, Helsinger also said he plans to announce another campus in the United States by the end of the year, which will eventually house eight chip factories. He said the complex could cost $ 100 billion over ten years and eventually employ 10,000 people.
The administration of US President Biden is working hard to persuade Congress to approve $ 52 billion in funding to dramatically increase chip production in the United States. The Senate voted in June to fund chips under a broader competitiveness bill, but the House of Representatives postponed it.
However, Intel’s plans to build new plants will not alleviate the current shortage of chips, because the construction of such complexes takes years. Gelsinger has previously said he expects the chip shortage to last until 2023.
In September, Intel laid the foundation for two Arizona plants as part of its reorganization plan to become a major chipmaker for external customers. The $ 20 billion plants will increase the total number of Intel plants on the Phoenix suburb of Chandler to six.
