A project of a face mask that can detect acute respiratory viral infections and symptoms of coronavirus was developed by a team of developers from Dnipro YOVi team, which consists exclusively of schoolchildren.
The device includes sensors of respiratory rate, pulse oximetry (measures blood oxygenation, heart rate and body temperature), which allows you to recognize the main symptoms of the disease. The device also measures temperature, humidity and air pollution and atmospheric pressure. Indicators from these sensors are fed to the control board, where the microprocessor analyzes the data. Ready-made information about the human condition and the surrounding air is sent to the user’s smartphone via Bluetooth.
Team member Maria Kalinichenko, winner of the “Ecology and Energy” module from the STEM is FEM charity educational project, said the team owes its success to its teachers as well as extracurricular educational projects.
“For example, I took part in four training modules of the STEM is FEM charity educational project, which promotes technical specialties among Ukrainian girls. In one of them I won a technical competition. It helped me feel confident, confident that a girl can be in the robotics team and work in the STEM industry in general, “said Maria.
STEM is FEM initiator, investor and IT businessman Serhiy Tokarev says that this is the main goal of the project.
Today, there are still stereotypes about “male” professions. Unfortunately, they include many STEM areas. We try to level these stereotypes, to demonstrate what success girls can achieve in these areas, and to introduce participants to women who have already achieved them. – says Tokarev, – We are very happy when our graduates establish themselves in STEM and achieve success.”
Currently, a team of inventors from Dnipro is looking for sponsors to make a prototype mask. The team needs a copy to take part in the FIRST Robotics Competition in the USA.
