The CDC also found that in December, the incidence of Covid-related hospitalizations in unvaccinated adults of the same age group was 17 times higher than in those who were fully vaccinated.
Unvaccinated adults aged 50 to 64 are 44 times more likely to be hospitalized than vaccinated adults.
In the same age group, unvaccinated adults were also 17 times more likely to be hospitalized for Covid.
According to the CDC, adults 65 years of age and older who received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna had a 94% lower risk of hospitalization associated with Covid.
Unvaccinated adults aged 18 to 49 are 12 times more likely to be hospitalized, while unvaccinated adolescents aged 12 to 17 are nine times more likely to be hospitalized than their fully immunized peers.
“Severe illness means that the elderly with Covid-19 may need hospitalization, intensive care or ventilator to help them breathe, or they may even die. The risk increases for people aged 50 and over. at the age of 60, 70 and 80. People aged 85 and older are most often ill, “the CDC said in a statement.
“Get vaccinated as soon as possible,” the agency added.
Last Friday, international regulators of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulators released a report reaffirming the importance of a booster dose.
Let’s add
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 69 million cases and more than 860,000 deaths have been reported in the United States since the pandemic. About 63% of Americans have been fully vaccinated.
Earlier this week, US chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said there were five stages to the pandemic and that the world was still in its first phase.
The next four phases are deceleration, control, elimination and eradication.
“If you look at the history of infectious diseases, we have eliminated only one infectious disease in humans, and that is smallpox. This virus will not happen,” Fauci said of Covid-19.
