“This heating season is taking place in conditions of unprecedented challenges not only for Ukraine but for the whole world. Prices for gas, coal, oil and other energy resources are rising to record levels. All this is also accompanied by an increase in electricity consumption against the background of the resumption of business activity in Ukraine. For example, in the 25 days of January this year, electricity consumption exceeds consumption for the same period last year by 5%, “said Shmygal.

According to the Prime Minister, the main load in this heating season is borne by nuclear generation. There are currently 14 NPP units operating.
He said that in early February it is planned to complete the planned ongoing repairs of Unit № 4 of Rivne NPP and include it in the network, which should ensure the operation of 15 units of nuclear power plants.
Context
In Ukraine, with the beginning of the heating season, there was talk of non-fulfillment of the plan to accumulate coal at thermal power plants for electricity production. At the same time, Russia refused to export coal to Ukraine, which is used at thermal power plants to produce electricity.
Against this background, Ukraine has resumed electricity imports from Belarus. The opportunity to import electricity from Russia and Belarus began on November 1, after several months of bans and litigation.
In order to avoid resource shortages and provide warehouses with fuel, Ukraine has started importing it, including by sea. Coal reserves in Ukrainian warehouses have increased.
Ukraine also relied on nuclear generation in such conditions.
At the same time, according to the Ministry of Energy, in this heating season in Ukraine, electricity consumption increased by almost 6%
However, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on December 15 that there had been no fan outages since the start of the heating season. According to him, several hours of power outages in one city or another are “urgent repairs to power lines, which are warned in advance, or emergencies related to weather conditions.” The Ministry of Energy pointed out that if Ukrainians are cut off from electricity, it is not because of the deficit. The only reason for the lack of electricity supply in the homes of Ukrainians is to carry out scheduled and emergency repairs by the distribution system operator, the ministry said.
However, the duration of power outages should not exceed a total of 8 hours per day in the winter months in case of inability to provide backup power, said in the regulator – NKREKP.
