Every year, about 100,000 participants from 5,000 teams from 36 countries take part in the FRC competition. Last year, Ukrainian YOVi won the Rookie Game Changer Award. Team captain Maria Kalinichenko is an active member of the STEM is FEM community, winner of the Ecology and Energy and Computer Science modules, and a representative of the project at public events such as the Ukrainian Women’s Congress. The girl admits that without friends and partners the team would not have been able to win.
“We thank our partners – USAID, the Small Academy of Sciences, and especially the STEM is FEM training project and its initiator Serhiy Tokarev for their support. This is an incredible initiative that motivates and inspires the boldest achievements, ”says Maria.
Among the team’s developments are inventions that have been recognized by professionals – a mask for diagnosing coronavirus, as well as a robot trainer for Paralympians.
This year, the team won a $ 5,000 grant from the organizers. However, in addition to the entry fee, the team needs to cover other technical and organizational costs to represent the country in the international arena. That’s why children are currently looking for sponsors.
“Parts for work, tools, flight, mentors’ salaries, food and duties cost a lot of money, namely more than $ 10,000, so we really need your help!” Says Maria Kalinichenko.
