According to Serhiy Makogon, the Hungarian route became the second guaranteed gas supply route to Ukraine after Slovakia, in particular in the absence of transit.
He added that the opening of this route allows traders to import liquefied gas to Ukraine from the Croatian terminal.
In Ukraine, they said they were surprised and disappointed by this decision.
Hungary has reacted harshly to criticism of the Ukrainian authorities over a long-term contract with Russia’s Gazprom. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto said that Ukraine was interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
Russia’s Gazprom has suspended the transit of natural gas through Ukraine to Hungary since October 1.
It was reported that Hungary refused to transit through Ukraine for the sake of the country’s energy security.
Subsequently, the GTS operator of Ukraine and the GTS operator of Hungary FGSZ signed a cooperation agreement on the introduction from January 1, 2022 of guaranteed capacity for the transportation of natural gas in the direction of Hungary-Ukraine.
