In 2021, the number of debts of Ukrainians increased by almost 1.5 million, which is almost a third more than in 2020 (1.2 million debts).

The following categories of the Unified Register of Debtors are growing the fastest:
- debts on loans, as well as to companies and organizations (+ 47% or + 567 thousand debts for 2021);
- arrears of utilities (+ 41% or +140 thousand debts). The total debt as of the end of 2021 is UAH 72.7 billion;
- debts in cases of administrative offenses (+ 35% or +285 thousand debts).
The largest categories by quantitative indicator:
- debts to banks, companies and organizations – 1,761,749 debts (27% of the total debt);
- recovery of funds in favor of the state – 1,629,505 debts (25%);
- fines for violating traffic rules – 1,327,440 debts (20%).

Getting on the register can impose a number of restrictions on the debtor, including: a ban on leaving the country; blocking money in bank accounts and a ban on opening new accounts; ban on the sale and purchase of cars and real estate; debt collection from all official income.
