The expert noted that it is too early to talk about the direction of the new alliance, as all the details and agreements are currently unknown.
Quote:
“I think the security dimension should be a key element in this, and I think it will be, because today this topic is key for all three members of this future union,” he said.

According to Ogryzko, the idea of such “triangles” is not new, back in the 1990s he proposed such formats to the then leadership to unite Ukraine’s interests with “the countries we need.” However, according to him, then this idea, unfortunately, was not implemented.
“It simply came to our notice then. This is the right approach, and I think there are very good chances for other formats. Well, I think that the most important thing is security, especially considering that one of the corners of this triangle (I mean Britain) is a nuclear country, which is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, which is a country that is signed the Budapest Security Guarantees of Ukraine ” .
He stressed that the United Kingdom obviously supports Ukraine, provides it with huge financial and military assistance, and has taken a very clear position on Russia, so having such an ally is a huge and unconditional plus for Ukraine.
“Will he have what we desperately need to deter Russia, namely an article that would guarantee mutual support in the event of a third party attack on one of these three member states (analogous to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty – ed.) – this is exactly a point that is key to believing that it would indeed have a very deterrent effect on Russia. It is unlikely that it will be registered there, but even without it, I think this form of cooperation is extremely positive, and when it happens, I think we will raise glasses of champagne, “he said.
According to the former minister, to form new regional alliances with countries that “speak the same language” with Ukraine is an unconditional positive, so the more such formats in our arsenal, the better.
Asked what Britain’s benefit from such a union was, he said that the United Kingdom was now “leaving its own game” after leaving the European Union.
“It starts in the absence of leadership ambitions (real, which could be seen) in countries such as Germany and France, begins to take over the role of leader on the European continent. And this is now very clear. Therefore, I think that having a close and truly partnership relationship with Britain will only benefit Ukraine, and we will welcome it, ”Ogryzko added.
What was before
The day before, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada that Ukraine was creating a new format of political cooperation in Europe.
Last year, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the Foreign Ministry was working on two ideas for forming two new alliances. In January, Kuleba reaffirmed his intention to launch another regional alliance, noting that Ukraine’s foreign policy has long had “the idea of a Black Sea-Baltic axis.” The union of Britain, Poland and Ukraine could strengthen and expand this axis, he said. This idea was also confirmed by Britain.
It is important to note that Ukraine is now part of a number of regional alliances, including the Lublin Triangle with Lithuania and Poland and the Associated Trio with Georgia and Moldova.
