It is believed that women who are obese often have overweight children themselves, and this is due to poor heredity. But scientists from the UK conducted a large-scale study involving 9,000 mothers and their children. They found that there is no stable link between maternal and infant obesity, and if such cases occur, they are not explained by genes.
According to scientists, childhood overweight is determined not so much by heredity as nutrition and lifestyle. This is the most important thing for a child and teenager. There is some connection with maternal weight, but it is not due to genetics, but to the fact that during childbirth, a chubby woman eats too much, and her baby receives excessive amounts of nutrients through the placenta.
However, this intrauterine feeding is not a key factor that subsequently affects the baby’s weight. It is very important that overweight mothers feed their children properly. Unfortunately, children often follow the example of their parents, and this applies to nutrition. If mom or dad is constantly leaning on sweets, fast food and some chips, then their child will absorb all this, drinking carbonated water. This is why overweight women are more likely to have obese children.
