What was before
The Union State is an integration project of Russia and Belarus, which Moscow and Minsk began to develop in the late 1990s. It provides for the creation of a joint parliament, currency and legislation.
On November 4, 2021, Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin approved 28 allied programs “aimed at implementing large-scale tasks to strengthen Russian-Belarusian integration.” Among them are the convergence of macroeconomic policy, the integration of information systems for product labeling, the harmonization of tax and customs legislation, the formation of integrated markets for gas, oil, petroleum products and electricity. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that these programs will be implemented within two to three years.
