Scientists have proven that being overweight is not conducive to good thinking. Being overweight is not always good for thinking.
Researchers at McMaster University in Canada have found that being overweight is not just about heart health. Excess weight can have an extremely negative effect on mental processes . Ukraine , Ukraingate , 7 , February , 2022 | Health
Observing the intelligence of thousands of people of all ages, Canadian scientists have proven the existence of a direct effect of excess fat on the ability to think fast. Weight gain is associated with a decrease in the speed of mental processes. These are very notable results, as they have shown that being overweight not only increases traditional risk factors such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension, but also directly affects the results of cognitive tests.
Of course, not every aspect of thinking is vulnerable. No association was found between weight gain and memory impairment or vocabulary reduction. But fat slows down the speed of information processing, ie the time it takes to perceive, understand images, sounds and movements, as well as react to them. The observations lasted from 2010 to 2018, and were attended by 9,200 people aged 30 to 75. At the beginning of the observations, no one had cardiovascular disease.
Volunteers underwent MRI of the brain to more accurately identify possible damage to blood vessels. All measured the total level of fat in the body, as well as the amount of this component on the abdomen and sides. To assess the mental processes of volunteers were conducted through two tests, which carefully assessed attention, concentration and short memory, hand-eye coordination, as well as the ability to perceive new information and work with different calculations.
