Inflation does not fall below 10%: more expensive vegetables and communal services
In January this year, consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 10% year on year (compared to January last year), unchanged from the previous month. This is evidenced by data from the State Statistics Service .

Consumer prices in January 2022 compared to December last year increased by 1.3%.
Core inflation in January compared to December 2021 was 0.1%, in January 2021 – 7.6%.
That rose in price from products
In the consumer market in January, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 2.5% (14% year on year). Vegetables became more expensive the most (by 20.5%) during the month. Prices for eggs, fruit, bread, milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, rice, lard and butter increased by 3.9–1.0% in January. At the same time, sugar and sunflower oil fell by 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively.
Clothing and footwear fell by 5.7%, including footwear – by 6.1%, clothing – by 5.4%.
Utility rates
The increase in prices (tariffs) for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels in January was 0.7% (4.3% year on year). As explained in the State Statistics Service, the rise in prices for the month was mainly due to an increase in tariffs for sewerage by 14.9%, water supply – by 12.0%.
Prices for other services
In January, prices for transport increased by 1.3%, mainly due to a 2.9% increase in fares for rail passenger transport and 2.6% for fuel and lubricants.
In the field of communications, prices increased by 1.1% over the month, due to an increase in local telephone tariffs by 13.6%.
The increase in the price of educational services by 1.6% in January (17.4% year on year) in the State Statistics Service was explained by an increase in the fee for keeping children in preschool institutions by 23.3%.
During the month, prices for health services increased by 0.5% (6.2% year on year).
The data are given without taking into account the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and part of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Addition
Inflation has doubled in 2021, with prices rising for four years.
The National Bank of Ukraine has downgraded its inflation forecast for 2022 from 5% to 7.7%.
