If this is confirmed, it will be the first time that a planet where life is potentially supported will be discovered in the orbit of a star called the White Dwarf.
The planet was discovered in the “populated area” of the star, where it is not too cold and not too hot to sustain life.
The study is published in the monthly bulletin of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Professor Jay Farihi of University College London, who led the study, said the observation was new to astronomers.
“This is the first time something has been seen in a white dwarf settlement. Thus, there is a possibility of life in another world that revolves around him (white dwarf – ed.) “, – he told BBC News.
A possible planet 117 light-years from Earth is thought to be 60 times closer to a star than our planet is to the Sun.
The research team has no direct evidence of the existence of the planet, but the movement of 65 structures the size of the Moon orbiting the white dwarf zone suggests that it exists. The distance of bodies from each other does not change, which suggests that they are under the influence of gravity near the planet.
“It was a shock for the team. The movement was so terribly accurate that nothing could be imagined, “said Professor Farihi.
The results should prompt astronomers to actively search for direct evidence of planets around white dwarfs.
“Usually in astronomy, if we find one, it usually means it’s common,” he said.

While large stars become black holes when they die, smaller ones, such as our Sun, become white dwarfs, stars that have used up all their nuclear fuel and lost their outer layers.
They are usually the size of a planet and emit blue-white light during the first formation.
A habitable zone is a band around a star where liquid water can exist on the planet and therefore support life. It is often called the “Golden Hair Zone” because if the planet is too close to the star, it will be too hot, and if it is too far, it will be too cold, while inside the band the conditions are “just right”.
