While the Cabinet wants to increase funding for the Ministry of Health by 2.6% in the state budget-2021, Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov says that the draft state budget for 2021, which was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for the 2nd reading, will not allow increasing salaries for doctors.
According to the minister, in its budget request, the Ministry of Health expected to increase salaries next year to 23 thousand hryvnia for doctors, up to 17 thousand hryvnia – for nurses and up to 12 thousand hryvnia – for junior medical personnel.
“In the version of the budget, which the Cabinet of Ministers sent to the Verkhovna Rada, funds for such an increase in salaries are not provided. That is why I did not vote for this budget. I cannot afford to support such figures in the budget for next year,” he said.
Stepanov stressed that now doctors receive one of the lowest salaries in the country.
According to the minister, while salaries remain at the current low level, doctors will leave the country.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zelenskiy said that the Ministry of Health wants to set the minimum wage for a doctor at UAH 20-25 thousand in 2021.
Also, the Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov linked the delay in transferring additional payments to medical workers with the delay of some chief doctors in submitting documents.
