Scientists conducted a global study involving 80,000 people.
As part of the study, experts monitored changes in red meat consumption by respondents between 1986 and 1994 and from 1994 to 2002 to see if regular consumption of this type of meat was associated with premature death. In the end, it was found that higher levels of red meat lead to higher mortality rates among both men and women.
In particular, the researchers found that increasing half a serving of red meat a day was associated with a 10% increased risk of death.
“This is a long-term study – another proof that by reducing the consumption of red meat and replacing it with other protein products or large amounts of whole grains and vegetables, you can reduce the risk of premature death,” – said Professor Frank Hu .
He also added that the most healthy diet for modern man is the Mediterranean diet, which will increase life expectancy.
