Recently, more and more young people are suffering from bowel cancer. This conclusion was reached by Australian scientists,

To find out how bowel cancer trends have changed in recent years, the researchers looked at information from the US National Cancer Registry.
Thus, in 2004-2015, the diagnosis of “rectal cancer” was diagnosed in more than 130 thousand patients under the age of 50, and in more than a million patients over the age of 50. It turned out that even in such a short period of time the share of patients under the age of 50 increased from 10 to 12.2%.
Experts emphasize that the reason for the increase in the incidence of bowel cancer in young patients is unclear, but new studies suggest that this may be due to weight gain and changes in the composition of the gastrointestinal flora.
The situation in Ukraine
At the same time, in Ukraine, according to the National Cancer Registry, in 2020 6285 new cases of this
pathology, the highest incidence rates are in the age group of 65-84 years.
According to the clinical oncologist of the Israeli Oncology Hospital LISOD Maxim Yermakov, the situation in Ukraine in terms of age is not very different from the world. The problem is in the diagnosis.
Quote
“It is unlikely that the situation in Ukraine with the disease is radically different from other European countries. What may differ is the level of diagnosis. Tumors of the colon and rectum (colorectal cancer – ed.) Develop rather slowly and have no symptoms for a long time. If an elderly patient is diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer, he began to develop years, if not decades earlier. during a colonoscopy, without waiting for them to regenerate into a malignant tumor! “, – the doctor explained.
