NASA is developing the Artemis Space Launch System, which in 2024 will allow man to return to the moon.
The first flight of the future spacecraft will take place in 2021 and will be unmanned, according to the US National Space Agency. In three years, according to the plan, people will fly to the Earth’s satellite – for the first time in almost 40 years.
But some experts say that 2024 is too optimistic a forecast, as the project has already had several delays.
By 2026, the US government plans to launch another long-term project – to prepare for the launch of part of the project to build a nuclear power plant on the surface of the moon, writes CNBC. First, the design will be tested on Earth, and later they want to send it to a satellite so that the station produces energy to maintain the work of the research point. NASA and the US Department of Energy have already announced a competition to find manufacturers who will implement the project.
The United States is the only country that has sent people to the moon. A total of 12 astronauts visited there from 1969 to 1972.
