Ukraine Gate -Kiev- March 7, 2022- South Korea plans to suspend operations with the Central Bank of Russia, to join tough sanctions against Russia in connection with the invasion of Ukraine, a news agency reported.
The South Korean government said it would provide the details after consulting with relevant government agencies.
Earlier, South Korea joined the sanctions against Russia, which cover export controls and break with the global payment system SWIFT. The state decided to suspend operations with seven major Russian banks and effectively banned investment in Russian government bonds.
As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian forces are bombing and destroying key infrastructure, intensively bombing residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and a general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the United Nations International Court of Justice in The Hague.
The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan has launched an investigation into the situation in Ukraine.
