The aid, worth 5 million yuan, or $ 791,000, was sent to the Ukrainian Red Cross on Wednesday, March 9. Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijiang said he would provide more support “as soon as possible.”
He also reaffirmed China’s opposition to harsh economic sanctions against Russia.
“Applying sanctions at every turn will never bring peace and security, but will cause serious difficulties for the economy and livelihoods of the countries concerned,” Lijiang said in Beijing.
According to him, China and Russia will continue trade cooperation, including oil and gas trade, “in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.”
