The Lithuanian Seimas has adopted a resolution calling on the European Union to immediately grant Ukraine candidate status and open membership talks.

“Ukraine has been seeking membership in the European Union for more than ten years, Ukraine and the EU have been linked by the Association Agreement for the past five years; thus, the country’s application for membership in the European Union is the result of its persistent commitment to European integration.” said in the resolution.
The Lithuanian Seimas reaffirmed its readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in its quest for EU membership.
“123 members of the Lithuanian Seimas unanimously voted in favor of the resolution in support of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union,” the statement reads.

On February 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi submitted an official application for EU membership.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine’s application for EU membership should be considered separately from the documents submitted by Georgia and Moldova.
