He also informed about the current state of nuclear power facilities in Ukraine. Thus, Russian regular troops captured the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, as well as the city of Energodar, which serves it. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant is currently cut off from electricity due to shelling by the occupying forces.
“The actions of the Russian Federation are a gross violation of many conventions on nuclear security, including the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism. We call on the international community to find a way to force Russia to withdraw its troops from peaceful nuclear facilities and to establish at least a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone around our nuclear power plants. And for us it is very important to ensure the normal work of staff, to give them the opportunity to rest, “- said Galushchenko.
The Minister also called on European countries to postpone the phasing out of nuclear energy, which will reduce natural gas consumption. For example, Germany, in this case, can save up to 9 billion cubic meters of gas.
“We also ask for your firm position on supporting Ukraine’s energy independence, in particular, the synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system with ENTSO-E as soon as possible,” the Minister said.
Responding to Herman Galushchenko’s address, EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said that the G-7 should call on Russia to take responsibility for possible risks on the territory of nuclear facilities.
“And she insisted that hostilities around nuclear facilities must be stopped, and the safe operation of nuclear facilities must be ensured at all times,” the statement said.
In addition, Kadri Simpson noted that EU energy ministers responded positively to Ukraine’s request for emergency synchronization with the European continental network ENTSO-E and that this work is ongoing.
“The Minister of Energy of the United Kingdom Quasi Quartneg, in support of the European Commissioner’s speech, in turn called on the participants to fully support Ukraine, including recalling the impressive speech of President Volodymyr Zelensky to the British Parliament, where he stressed that Ukraine end “, – it is noted in the message.
It is reported that all G-7 energy ministers expressed support for Ukraine and assured full solidarity with the Ukrainian people and readiness to continue to seek the most effective mechanisms to put pressure on the aggressor in the energy sector.
