During an extraordinary session of the International Maritime Organization Council on March 10-11, Ukraine called for the closure of ports for Russian ships. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukrai .

The Council strongly condemned Russia’s violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the Russian military’s attacks on commercial vessels.
The session called for the full restoration of Ukraine’s rights as a coastal state, flag state and port state and stressed the need to establish a maritime humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilian ships and crews from the war zone and the resumption of commercial shipping.
For the crews of those vessels that have not left dangerous waters for reasons of safety of navigation, terrestrial humanitarian corridors for evacuation should be established. The Council also called on the member states of the International Maritime Organization and relevant organizations to ensure the security of maritime supply chains, in particular for the delivery of food and medicine to the civilian population of Ukraine, and to provide maximum assistance to seafarers.
