To protect against danger, first of all the expert advises to establish two-step check
Forbes specialist Zach Doffman named three important WhatsApp settings that must be enabled for the messenger to work safely.
According to the expert, attackers practice several ways to hack WhatsApp. One of them is based on social engineering: the user is tricked into sharing an SMS code with an “acquaintance” who has already been hacked.
To protect against danger, first of all Doffman advises to install a two-step test and set an additional six-digit code. Even if an attacker learns the user’s password from an SMS, he will not be able to use it when hacking.
“Everyone who uses WhatsApp should enable this security setting,” the expert said, adding that this can be done through the “Account” menu in the program settings.
The second necessary step is to disable the automatic saving of photos and videos on the smartphone. Doffman says that you can only accept multimedia data if the user is willing to vouch for the sender. Otherwise, the image or video may hide malicious code. To turn off the automatic response of media files, you need to go to settings, select “Chats” and uncheck “in the film”.
The expert also advised to take care of privacy settings: limit the number of people who see the user’s account and who can add it to groups. This will help protect against attackers, Doffman said. To adjust these settings, go to “Settings”, select “Account” and find under the menu “Privacy”.
