In December, St. Andrew’s Church in the center of the capital will be open to the public – after almost five years of restoration. The opening is scheduled online – December 12, and the first service will take place on St. Andrew’s Day – December 13.
“In December 2020, after almost five years of restoration work, St. Andrew’s Church will be available to visitors,” the statement said.
As the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko said after visiting the church and getting acquainted with the progress of the works, “the opening will take place online on December 12, and the first service will take place in the church on December 13”.
“All the paintings, icons and iconostasis have been completely restored, the stucco has been cleaned and the floor has been sanded. Engineering networks have been replaced, new lighting, heating, air supply and windows systems have been installed. By the way, the authentic color of the walls of the 18th century thanks to computer analysis helped to find German technologists. And before the approval of the final color and painting, 36 test paints were made,” the minister said.
He also stressed that the purpose of the restoration was to reveal the original solutions and visions of the architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, whose 320th birthday is celebrated this year.
