Estonia calls on NATO to abandon its position of “cover troops” in Eastern Europe and to create a permanent force in the region that will be able to resist Russia. This was stated in an interview with The Guardian by Estonian Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Jonathan Vseviov .

“The cover-up approach depends on the calculation that the detainee understands the connection between cover-up and fortification of the armed forces,” Vseviov said.
“Knowing this and realizing that we now need to build NATO’s defense and deterrence, as well as European security in general, for the long term. We need to move from deterrence-based deterrence to outright defense deterrence or denial deterrence, if you will. ”
Details
Vseviov noted that the number of troops and equipment needed will depend on military planners and the situation in different countries. The forces should not be large enough to stop Russia from capturing any territory, but sufficient to put up fierce resistance.

“We need to rely less on reinforcements, but have more defense forces in the frontline states on the first day. I think there will be a broad political consensus in NATO on the need to move in this direction, and the exact details are being worked out, “he said.
Vseviov also noted that Europe and the Alliance will no longer be able to “return to the world until February 23”, when Russia has not yet attacked Ukraine, so the countries will be in a “completely new security environment.”
Let’s add
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has confirmed that long-term changes in NATO’s position in Europe will be discussed this week. In particular, the details of the plan will be discussed during the Alliance’s summit on Thursday, March 24.
