The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi has arrived in Ukraine to begin providing emergency technical assistance to ensure the safety of the country’s nuclear facilities, he said on Twitter .

“I have just crossed the border into Ukraine to launch an IAEA mission to ensure the security of the country’s nuclear facilities. We must act now to help prevent the danger of a nuclear accident,” Grossi said.

The IAEA said on Twitter that Grossi was in Ukraine “to begin providing emergency technical assistance to ensure the safety of the country’s nuclear facilities and prevent the risk of an accident that could threaten people and the environment.”

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov asked the IAEA to send representatives to the seized nuclear power plants.
