Ukraine, Ukraine gate- March 29, 2022- The procedure for concluding a possible future agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine provides for holding a referendum and ratification by the parliaments of the guarantor states.
“Implementation of the decision of this security guarantees agreement will follow such a procedure: first it will be a referendum on which all citizens of Ukraine will express their stance on this agreement, on how it should work. After that, there will be ratification by the parliaments of the guarantor states and the Parliament of Ukraine,” Mykhailo Podolyak, Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said at a briefing in Istanbul, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
In turn, Davyd Arakhamiya noted that pursuant to Ukrainian law, the referendum cannot be held under martial law, it requires peace.
As reported, Davyd Arakhamiya, head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, member of the Ukrainian delegation at the talks with Russia, has stated that Ukraine suggests that the UN Security Council members should join the international security guarantees treaty, while a threat response mechanism should be similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, but providing for no more than three days of consultations.
