Gabek called Moscow’s demands to pay for gas in rubles a breach of contract, as the document provides for payment for gas in dollars or euros. Russia, however, insists on its demand and threatens to cut off gas supplies if it refuses to pay for fuel in rubles.
According to Gabek, the currently activated early warning level is only the first of three and is a preventive measure.
A crisis group will also meet in Germany to assess and analyze the gas supply situation. This will allow, if necessary, to take further measures to ensure energy security, explained the Ministry of Energy of Germany.
Gabeck called on businesses and private consumers in Germany to save energy. “Every kilowatt / hour saved is important,” he said.
