Sandu explained in detail what it means for Moldova to impose sanctions on Russia, and said that the war in Ukraine is already affecting Moldova’s export and import activities.

When we talk about sanctions in general, without going into details, this is a very superficial approach. Let’s discuss what sanctions on exports and imports can mean: we do not have access to the Ukrainian market, nor to the Russian and Belarusian ones. “This obstacle is war. Both exports and imports with these countries are blocked,” Sandu said.
She also stressed that Chisinau’s most important dependence on Moscow is energy resources, adding that Moldova has no other solution to the issue.
“Can we leave the country today without natural gas and electricity? No, we can’t. Neither for our citizens, nor for the sake of 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, 50,000 of whom are children,” said Maya Sandu.
To the remarks of journalist Valentina Ursu that Kyiv will be “angry with Moldova’s attitude”, Sandu replied:
Of course, we must do everything to stop this war. But there are certain things we must provide for our citizens. Leaving the country without energy resources and destabilizing the situation here (in Moldova – ed.), We will not help anyone: neither Moldova, neither to Ukraine nor to our partners in the West. “
Then the Minister of the Czech Republic Jana Chernohova made a statement at the summit of the Ministers of Defense of the V4 countries, which was to take place in Hungary by the Ministers of Defense of the V4, that ” Russian oil is more important than Ukrainian blood .”
