Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 6, 2022- The British government on Wednesday imposed further sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
A new round of sanctions would end Britain’s import of Russian fuels and target a range of companies and individuals in a bid to destroy Putin’s war machine, said the country’s Foreign Minister Liz Truss. “Together with our allies, we are showing the Russian elite that they can no longer absolve themselves of complicity in the atrocities committed on Putin’s behalf,” she said.
The sanctions envisage freezing the capital of Russian banks Sberbank and Credit Bank of Moscow and a complete ban on new investments in Russia. The government also wants to end the country’s dependence on Russian coal and Russian oil by the end of 2022 and stop importing gas as much as possible. Iron and steel products from Russia are also to be subject to an import ban.
