Ukraine considers Hungary’s statement of readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles as an unfriendly position on our state, as it will provide the Russian military machine with the necessary resources to continue the war against Ukraine. This is stated in the comments of the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko,

The diplomat noted that the political campaign of the ruling party in Hungary during the parliamentary elections was based on intimidating Hungarians by allegedly threatening the spread of Russian war on Hungarian territory.
According to him, after the elections in Budapest, we moved on to the next stage – to help Putin continue his aggression against Ukraine, the civilized world and Christian values.
According to a spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the reluctance of the Hungarian leadership to acknowledge Russia’s undeniable responsibility for the atrocities of the Russian army in Bucha, Irpen, Gostomel and other settlements means to consciously strengthen Russia’s impunity and encourage new atrocities against Ukrainians.
The same category includes statements by the Hungarian leadership about its readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles, he added.

“Russia is trying to convert payments for gas supplies to Europe into the national currency to save the Russian economy amid international sanctions. The Russian military machine needs resources to continue the war against Ukraine. In this context, we consider the statement of readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles as an unfriendly position towards our state, “Nikolenko said.
He noted that Ukrainians and Hungarians are united by centuries-old ties, and our country is home to about 150,000 Ukrainian Hungarians. At the same time, the logic that guides politicians in Budapest today, playing on Russia’s aggressive policy, is harmful to both our peoples, the diplomat said.
“Against this background, proposals to hold peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Budapest look cynical. If Hungary really wants to help end the war, here’s how to do it: stop destroying unity in the EU, support new anti-Russian sanctions, provide military assistance to Ukraine, and not create additional sources of funding for Russia’s military machine. It is never too late to get to the right side of history, ”he added.
