Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 7, 2022-The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday suspended Russia’s membership of the UN Human Rights Council over its invasion of Ukraine.
93 members voted in favor of the decision, 24 countries opposed and 58 abstained. Such countries as Belarus, China, Congo, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Zimbabwe voted against the suspension.
According to the decision of the UN General Assembly, Russia will officially remain a member of the Council until the end of its term, but will lose all the rights of this membership. For example, it can no longer take part in meetings of the Human Rights Council.
