The deputy chief of defense, John Kirby, told reporters that Russia had targeted a train station in Ukraine earlier today, which saw civilians killed and injured.
“Our assessment is that they used a short-range ballistic missile to launch this,” Kirby said.
“It is part of the Russian brutality in pursuing this war and their neglect to try to avoid harming civilians,” he added.
Ukrainian officials said at least 50 people were killed and nearly 100 wounded in a Russian missile attack on a train station used as an evacuation center in the eastern city of Kramatorsk.
