Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 10, 2022- Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi intends to sign an agreement to increase Algerian gas imports to replace Russian energy in Algeria on Monday.
The Italian delegation will also be joined by the Prime Minister, a representative of the Italian energy group Eni, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and Energy Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani.
As this surprise visit is scheduled to sign an agreement with the prior agreement of the two parties.
Italian authorities have stated that government officials were on business trips to Algeria and Qatar to agree on expanding Italian energy cooperation.
Italy is one of the European Union countries most dependent on Russian energy, as Russia’s share in the structure of Italian gas imports reached 43% at the end of 2021, and the share of Russian gas in the Italian energy sector is 19%, thus significantly ahead of Germany by 12%.
