In Kharkov, at the first session of the City Council, Gennady Kernes was officially registered as the mayor. At the same time, the election commission referred to the norms of the legislation allowing to do this without taking an oath.
The Kharkiv mayor has not been seen in public since 23 August. In September, he was confirmed to have a coronavirus and bilateral pneumonia. First, Kernes was treated in the city hospital number 17, and then taken to the Berlin clinic “Charite”. A month ago, oligarch Pavel Fuks posted a photo of the mayor in a hospital on his Telegram channel. His relatives call the approximate date of his return December 30.
At the session, the head of the territorial election commission Olga Mozgovaya said that the oath must be taken after the first election to the post of mayor. Due to the fact that Kernes has been mayor since 2010, he was registered without an oath.
