Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 14, 2022- Concerning the agricultural areas of buckwheat and rice, Ukrainian media said that Ukraine intends to increase the area of agricultural land in the Odessa region up to 10 thousand hectares for buckwheat, and up to 5 thousand hectares for rice in 2022.
Last fall, agricultural enterprises in Odessa planted 983,000 hectares of wheat and winter barley and 187,000 hectares of rapeseed for the 2022 season.
And at the beginning of April, the Odessa region was included in the TOP-3 region in terms of the number of cultivated areas. The work plan for this year’s spring field for Odessa farmers is 757 thousand hectares. Spring barley (50,000 hectares), peas (19000 hectares), oats (2000 hectares) and spring wheat (5000 hectares) were also planted.
Director of the Department of Agrarian Policy, Food and Wild Relations of Odessa Ufa Alla Stoyanova said that winter wheat planted on an area of 550 thousand hectares is the main food crop. He also said that the general condition of crops is satisfactory, and most of the plantings in Podolsk, Perezevsky, Belgorod-Dniester and Bolgrad provinces are 86.9 thousand hectares, 86.3 thousand hectares, 72.7 thousand hectares and 70.7 thousand hectares respectively.
According to the farmers, this year’s spring sowing is characterized by high fertilizer prices due to limited imports and disruption of local plants, which will affect the cost of finished grain products and increase the cost of diesel fuel.
According to Alla Stoyanova, 147 thousand tons of fertilizers are needed for the implementation of the spring work complex, 1.235 million tons of plant protection products, 31.9 thousand tons of diesel and 6.2 thousand tons of gasoline.
