The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv will discuss the appointment of ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych as a public defender due to the fact that his lawyers did not appear at the hearing after the break, which they themselves asked for.
The lawyers of the ex-president of Ukraine asked for time to get acquainted with the case materials. The court announced the transfer for three hours after Yanukovych was denied participation in the meeting by video link. After that, they did not appear at the meeting.
The prosecution drew attention to the misconduct of lawyers, and the court raised the issue of appointing a former state attorney. However, if the lawyers return to court, they will be able to take part in it.
Prosecutors said that the fact that Yanukovych may be appointed a free lawyer – will facilitate the appearance in court of the current defenders of the former president.
Yanukovych’s free lawyer is due to appear in court today, December 10, at 12:00.
It should be noted that the court did not choose a measure of restraint for Yanukovych in the “Maidan case”, as previously requested by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv refused to allow prosecutors to disqualify Yanukovych’s lawyer , Oleksandr Horoshynskyi, from participating in the case of violent crimes on February 18-20, 2014, and the interest of the ex-president’s defense.
The Kyiv Court of Appeals lifted Yanukovych’s arrest in absentia in the case of organizing violent crimes on February 18-20, 2014 during the Maidan and ordered a new hearing on the choice of a measure of restraint.
