Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 16, 2022- After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began and destroyed several areas of the capital, Kyiv, France moved its embassy to the city of Lviv, and now, seven weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, France has returned its embassy to the capital, Kyiv, and raised the French flag on the embassy building next to the European Union flag.
The French ambassador, Etienne de Poncin, also stressed the failure of the Russian army to occupy the capital, Kyiv, because diplomats want to be as close as possible to decision-making centers in Ukraine to continue their support.
Against the background of Russia’s threat of a comprehensive invasion, many countries quickly moved their embassies from Kyiv to Lviv, but now some countries have begun to return their embassies to Kyiv, including Italy, Belgium, France, Slovakia, the Baltic states, Turkey and others.
