During the meeting, Shmygal stressed that Ukraine needs modern weapons and finances, and sanctions against Russia should be expanded.
The Prime Minister called on Blinken to disconnect all Russian banks from SWIFT and recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.
“It will be a powerful political signal for the whole world,” he said.
He also spoke about Russia’s war crimes and the blockade of Ukrainian ports, and expressed hope that the United States would diplomatically and economically promote Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
According to Shmygal, Blinken assured that the United States will continue to support Ukraine as much as possible and will continue to actively coordinate its actions with European allies in order to increase pressure on Russia.
Blinken himself commented on the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart: “A wonderful meeting with Prime Minister Denis Shmygal to discuss what Ukraine needs most for protection and restoration. Ukraine’s courage in defending freedom and democracy inspires us all,” he wrote.
