The Russian-occupied Kherson region will switch to using the ruble on May 1, self-proclaimed “deputy head” of the region’s military-civil administration Kirill Stremousov told Russian media.

Stremousov said the transition period would last up to four months, during which both the Russian ruble and the Ukrainian hryvnia would be in circulation. After that there will be a full transition to the ruble.

At the end of March, Serhiy Khlan, a deputy of the Kherson Regional Council, said that pensions in rubles had been paid in Henichesk, Kherson Oblast. He also said that the occupiers were likely to force rubles into stores in the region and pay salaries to the “new administration”.
