Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 30, 2022- The European Commission website reported that the European Union and the United States met in Washington for an operational group on energy security given the current situation in the European gas market, and the main topic was to discuss ways of shaping gas demand in Europe and diversifying supply routes.
The EU-US Energy Security Task Force held a personal meeting in Washington to discuss the implementation of the joint statement of Presidents Biden and von der Leyen.
The meeting also discussed options to reduce European demand for natural gas, including the use of heat pumps, and other technologies to improve and conserve energy efficiency, including “smart” thermostats and the broader use of renewable energy sources.
The parties agreed to continue working together in the coming weeks at the level of technical experts and senior officials, as the next formal meeting of the EU-US Energy Security Working Group, which will assess the progress of this activity, will take place in June of this year.
Russia’s Gazprom also announced a complete cessation of gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria due to their refusal to pay for these supplies in rubles, and the European Commission describes such measures as unacceptable and directly violate the terms of contracts concluded by Gazprom, and most EU countries have refused to pay for gas. Russian rubles.
The European Union is looking for a way out of this by reducing its dependence on Russian energy supplies, finding alternative gas suppliers in the United States, and improving energy connectivity and European power grids.
