“Currently, the date and agenda of the 8th meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council are still being discussed. The next meeting was to take place in early April, but in the context of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, it was decided to postpone,” Stefanishina’s office said.
“Preparations are still at an early stage, but we already understand that this year’s Association Council will be held in the context of Ukraine’s candidacy for EU membership ” .

In this context, the Office expressed hope that the eighth meeting of the Council will be aimed not only at summing up Ukraine’s work on adapting legislation to EU law under the Association Agreement, but also “launching joint work with the EU on membership.”
Stefanishina was also reminded that by the end of this week the Government plans to complete work on the second part of the EU questionnaire to obtain the status of a candidate for accession.
“It is designed to assess the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with EU law in all areas, to assess our ability to implement EU law, and thus fulfill the obligations of EU membership,” – said in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Let’s add
In early December last year, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal. The parties agreed to hold the next Ukraine-EU Association Council in March 2022.
It was later reported that the event would take place in April.
However, the meeting did not take place against the background of the Russian military attack on our state.
The day before, Borrel mentioned the event – in his words, the EU-Ukraine Association Council “will be a key moment for further promotion of our partnership.”
