Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 9, 2022- Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyal said that Ukraine has refrained from exporting about 90 million tons of agricultural products due to the blockade imposed by Russia on Ukrainian sea ports.
Ukraine has proven itself to be one of the largest producers and suppliers of food to the world, and this means that the world is preparing for a severe food crisis, not because of the sanctions imposed on Russia, but because of its actions to close Ukrainian ports.
About 90 million tons of agricultural products produced by the country cannot be exported, Shmigal said, adding that for the first time in a hundred years a country is closing other ports to create a food crisis in the world.
Ukraine is also the number one exporter of sunflower oil, and a total of 47% of it is exported, and Dennis Shmygal said that the ports are blocked and tens of millions of tons of our products including oil cannot be delivered to those countries that are waiting.”
He also said that seaports are closed and 70% of exports pass through them, with most of the borders located in a war zone or with countries hostile to Ukraine.
He summarized that we have a kind of “bottleneck” left for export, very reliable, but to a much lesser extent compared to the ports, we are talking about our western border with Europe.
