Speaking from Kyiv after a two-day visit to Ukraine, Tedros said he was “deeply impressed” by what he saw and heard.
Tedros said attacks on medical facilities “must stop”, adding: “There are drugs that the WHO cannot deliver, and which Ukraine needs more than anything else – this is peace.”
“That is why we continue to call on Russia to stop this war,” he said.
Tedros said that he had discussed the health care situation in the country with the Ukrainian authorities and noted that the WHO would continue to support Ukraine’s health care system.
“My message to all the people of Ukraine is that the WHO supports you,” he said.
The head of the WHO said that despite the devastation, he also saw extreme resilience in Ukraine as people try to rebuild their lives.
