Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 14, 2022 – Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky said that the Organization of Cereal Exporting Countries, proposed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, will promote the development of free trade.
During a meeting with UK Secretary of State for Agriculture and Fisheries Victoria Prentice, Solsky said he is studying the Organization of Cereal Exporting Countries’ work with Ukraine, the European Union, the United States, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and the United Kingdom. OPEC will coordinate grain needs and production capacity and promote free trade.
It is also noted that Prentice expressed her support for Ukraine and condemned the actions of the Russian occupiers who are stealing Ukrainian farmers in eastern and southern Ukraine.
Ukraine is proposing to create an instrument for world food security, which is under threat from Russia’s all-out war.
According to the former head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy Olga Trofimtseva, the launch of the so-called railway grain bridge from Ukraine to the European Union will allow the export of a small share of Ukrainian grain to Europe, but the resumption of seaports or guarded convoys is needed to restore global supplies.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), about 25 million tons of grain has been suspended in Ukraine because grain cannot be exported due to the Russian blockade of ports and infrastructure problems.
