Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 14, 2022 – German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Andrea Zass said that NATO foreign ministers began holding an informal meeting from May 14 to 15 at the invitation of German Foreign Minister Annalena Borbock and NATO Secretary General.
The diplomat said that the meeting focuses on Russia’s war on Ukraine and its consequences, energy and food security, with other topics including the role of China, the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, Afghanistan, Africa and the Middle East, as well as the joint struggle against the climate crisis, the coronavirus epidemic and its repercussions.
Ministers will also discuss the possibility of joining the Finland-Sweden Alliance, as representatives of these two countries, Ann Linde and Pekka Haavisto, were invited to the evening of the first day of the meeting.
As this is the first time that such an informal coordination has occurred. According to the German Foreign Ministry, Berlin is also planning very small and discreet formats that promote direct exchange and open and direct discussion, and the informal format also aims to enhance the political dimension of NATO and political consultations within the alliance.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will also be replaced by Representative Mircea Joan in Berlin due to his infection with the Corona virus.
