Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 15, 2022 – Latvian Health Minister Daniel Pavlots has called for the World Health Organization’s European Office for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases to be moved out of Russia.
Where an extraordinary session of the WHO’s Regional Committee for Europe was held this week, Pavlios also reiterated his call for the WHO’s regional director to suspend all regional meetings in Russia and to move the WHO’s European Office for Noncommunicable Disease Prevention and Control out of Russia.
Stressing that the Russian military’s invasion of Ukraine was contrary to common sense and showed a complete lack of conscience, as it was targeting civilians, children, health workers and humanitarian workers, the minister stressed that Russia needs a strong political signal, given the impact of the devastation caused by Russia on Europe and the whole world.
The Ministers of Health of the Baltic States addressed the World Health Organization, emphasizing its primary mission to ensure health and well-being, particularly during humanitarian crises and military conflicts. The Ministers of the Baltic States called on the World Health Organization not to allow a Member State to undermine its core values and principles without respecting human rights to health.
The member states of the World Health Organization strongly condemned the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, and the European Union countries and the participants in the session called on Russia to immediately cease hostilities in Ukraine and act in accordance with international law.
