As his wife Lilia Poberezhskaya said on Facebook, Alexei had been fighting a serious illness for 4.5 years, had six operations and numerous chemotherapy sessions.
Sologubenko was one of the first Ukrainians to start working for the Air Force in the 1990s. On the shoulders of his team fell the responsibility not only to create the Ukrainian service, but also to be a source of information about Ukraine for the entire Air Force.
He recruited Ukrainian journalists to work in London, created the format of radio programs. He became the first Ukrainian head of the Ukrainian Air Force Service.
With the help of Oleksiy Sologubenko, the Ukrainian Service began cooperating with dozens of local radio stations that rebroadcast BBC programs for their listeners.
