Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 16, 2022 – A membership business plan has never been a legal requirement for NATO membership, so Ukraine can join the alliance without a business plan if it meets most of the requirements.
This was stated by the US Chargé d’Affairs to Ukraine Christina Quinn in an interview with European Truth.
The diplomat pointed out that the United States is only one of the 30 member countries of the alliance, so she can only talk about the American position.
We continue to support an open door policy for all “graduate students,” including Ukraine, if it seeks to join the alliance. Regarding the possibility of Finland joining without MAP, MAP was never a legal requirement to join NATO, so Ukraine could also join the alliance without MAP, Cowen said.
At the same time, she indicated that this is not a shortcut. According to her, MAP is a mechanism that allows the state to meet the requirements, and if the state already fulfills all the requirements, then MAP becomes superfluous.
“Therefore, neither Ukraine nor any other country should receive and implement a membership business plan if you generally meet most of the requirements,” the chargé d’affaires of the United States said.
