Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – May 19, 2022 – The Military Committee of NATO decided to hold a meeting in Brussels with the participation of the chiefs of staff of the Allied armies, headed by Admiral Rob Bower, today, Thursday.
Where NATO will discuss the war in Ukraine and the expansion of the alliance, especially the ongoing efforts to formulate the new strategic concept, which will be presented at the Atlantic Summit next June, and military leaders will discuss practical steps to implement the plan to increase the capabilities of the alliance in the countries of the eastern European Union.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu described his meeting with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken in New York as very useful, and that Minister Blinken assured him that the United States would convey the necessary messages to allay Turkey’s concerns about Sweden and Finland joining NATO.
Cavusoglu said that it is unacceptable for countries that want to join the alliance to support terrorist organizations targeting Turkey, and Cavusoglu added that it is also unacceptable that they impose restrictions on the sale of arms to a member state of the alliance, referring to Turkey.
Çavuşoğlu also expressed his optimism about the progress of his country’s bid to obtain American F-16 fighters.
Where US President Joe Biden welcomed the requests for Finland and Sweden to join NATO, and said that the United States strongly supports this request, warning that the United States will counter any attack on Finland and Sweden during the period of their accession.
He also said that Finland and Sweden joining the alliance would enhance its defense strategy.
It is also mentioned that in the first NATO meeting held after receiving an official request from Finland and Sweden to join the alliance, Turkey affirmed its reservations about the two countries’ request, while the NATO Secretary General described the Swedish-Finnish request as a historical moment.
